Wrike Vs. Basecamp: How These Platforms Compare

The Flow TeamLast Updated: January 5, 2021

For nearly a decade, as teams have grown more distributed in the workforce, a new kind of disconnect has emerged between projects and their members. No matter what methods people use to communicate with each other, messages have a way of missing their mark or individual tasks seem to find their way into outer space until someone finally asks, “Where did we end up landing with that?”

In answer to these confusions, many new tools have come to the rescue. Debates have brewed over which of these collaboration platforms is best—which is the one that helps everyone understand their roles, and which makes it a snap for projects to come together easily and effectively? You’ve probably heard about two of the more popular project management tools: Wrike and Basecamp. Well, the choice isn’t an easy one and each has its limitations. What if there was another option with a fresh, new look that combines the best features of both and adds additional functions that are needed for today’s high-demand projects?

Wrike vs. Basecamp

Wrike and Basecamp both offer basic functionality, but their built-in features are limited. Here’s a closer look at the key features and limitations of each.

Wrike

Wrike offers fundamental functionality and viewing options, but lacks built-in project management and project tracking functions.

Wrike’s features include:

  • Project members can share and view one another’s calendars.
  • Individuals and teams can create to-do lists for collaborating on projects.
  • Project managers can use Table View in a spreadsheet overview format for discussing projects.
  • Gantt chart integration is available for sharing charts.
  • Pricing for Professional for 5-15 users, $9.80 per user/month; Business for 5–200 users, $24.80 per user/month.

Wrike System Limitations: With an interface that is difficult to navigate and limited mobile app integration, onboarding project teams to this platform can prove frustrating.

Wrike offers minimal tracking features for your project teams, and this platform can be expensive for teams that are scaling.

Basecamp

Basecamp provides a variety of project management options including calendar integration and basic task management systems, however, the integration and customization possibilities are limited.

Basecamp’s features include:

  • Calendar and agenda viewing capabilities for Google Calendar, iCal, and Outlook.
  • Assigning to-do lists as tasks to individuals or project team members. You can set due dates, add comments, and attach files.
  • Recurring tasks.
  • Tracking history viewing.
  • Message board feature for communicating about projects.
  • Automatic reminders are sent for when projects are soon due or overdue.
  • Pricing for Business is $99/month

Basecamp System limitations: With minimal app integration and calendar functionalities, as well as limited access controls, Basecamp can be pricey for growing and scaling your teams.

If you need a basic project management platform, then Wrike or Basecamp will certainly work. But if you require a more feature-rich system with plenty of built-in app and integration opportunities, then it’s worth exploring another possibility.

Flow

With a distinctive, modern design and an intuitive system, Flow offers you features and integrations not found in either Wrike or Basecamp.

Flow’s attractive user interface provides teams a scalable solution that will simplify organizing project tasks, viewing updates, managing calendars, and sharing important notes and files.

Flow’s features include:

  • Robust, built-in chat and messaging
  • App and tool integrations with Slack, Dropbox, Google Drive, and more for a single all-in-one communication platform.
  • Calendar sharing via Google Calendar, iCal, or Microsoft Outlook
  • Project task management, including the ability to add and track due dates, set recurring tasks, add task comments, attach project files, and set tags and priorities.
  • Task filter and sorting.
  • Assignment views by day, week, or project in a convenient list.
  • Ability to toggle between your calendar and task management functions to make easier work of day-to-day task administration.
  • Cloud-based storage solution.
  • Pricing is Basic: $6 per user/month; Plus: $8 per user/month; Pro: $10 per user/month

Flow System Limitations: Previously, Flow did not have built-in chat messaging, but in its latest iteration, they’ve introduced a built-in chat and messaging tool for one-on-one, team, and project communication. So, you won’t have to go outside of the platform to stay in the loop with your team.

Implementing an All-Inclusive Tool

When comparing two systems such as Wrike vs. Basecamp, you may quickly realize that you need to consider a third option that is more feature-rich, scalable, and offers comprehensive access controls from one central dashboard. And, with any project management platform, price and the value you derive from it is always important, no matter what size team you currently have!

Comparing Wrike vs. Basecamp just isn’t enough when you need a scalable and cost-efficient team communication app with tools necessary for collaboration. Instead, Flow offers a modern step above other software systems.

Flow is an all-in-one collaborative platform that’s both scalable and simple enough to learn in minutes. To find out how it can improve your team’s workflow, sign up for a free trial today!
